Hate Your Job? Change Careers with the Help of an Online University

Updated: 9/9/2010

Are you feeling burnt out in your current job? Do you feel as if your job does not use your talents to their fullest or as if you aren’t really accomplishing anything at the end of the day? Does your job leave you feeling empty, overly stressed or otherwise dissatisfied? If any of these sounds familiar, it may be time for you to make a career change – and attending an online university is just the way to do it!

Why Should I Pursue an Online Education?

There are many reasons why pursuing an online education is a better option than attending a brick and mortar college or university. One of the greatest benefits of going to an online university is the fact that online schools are more convenient than brick and mortar institutions. After all, you can't attend a traditional college or university in the middle of the night while wearing your jammies if you want to. With an online university, on the other hand, you have the freedom to do just that!

When it comes to making a career change, however, online schools have more to offer than just convenience. Rather, they make it possible for you to pursue nearly every type of college degree you can think of. As technology continues to advance and as the demand for accredited online college degree programs continues to grow, a larger number of degree programs are becoming available. As such, there has never been an easier time to pursue a college degree and to finally make the career change you have been dreaming of.

How Do I Decide What Degree to Pursue?

Since online schools offer so many choices to those who are interested in earning an online degree, the biggest problem with attending an online university is deciding on which degree program you should pursue. When making this decision, there are several questions you should ask yourself. Some of these include:

  • How much money would I like to be making in 5 years? 10 years? 20 years?
  • What type of lifestyle do I want to live?
  • What are my natural talents?
  • What fields are of interest to me?
  • What type of education and training do I already have?

By answering these questions honestly, you should be able to get a better idea of the type of career that will best suit you. Obviously, you want to pursue a career that will allow you to enjoy the type of income you want, but you also need to have one that will suit your future life plans. If you want to become a parent and would like to spend a great deal of time with your children, for example, becoming a doctor or someone who has to work many hours may not be the right choice for you. If you have a natural aptitude for helping people, on the other hand, you might want to pursue a career in the education field.

Regardless of the type of career change you decide to make, you may be surprised by the number of online schools and degree problems that are available. So, take some time to get familiar with what is out there and take the first step toward making a change today!
